Below we have each of the Premier League programme covers for the Boxing Day games, including the Wolves v Manchester City fixture played on the 27th December.
One of the most striking covers was that produced by Chelsea for the visit of Southampton, which featured a black and white image of the late Peter Osgood, who starred for both clubs. Osgood came through the junior ranks at Chelsea, playing for the club between 1964 and 1974. He was a key component of the successful Chelsea sides of the early 1970s and scored in every round of the FA Cup when the Blues first won the competition in the 1969/70 season. Osgood was the subject of the ‘Secrets of the Dressing Room’ feature that has appeared in the Chelsea programme all this season, with the issue also featuring highlights of Osgood’s career with various images from the archives.
Elsewhere, the cover of Everton’s programme for the visit of Burnley featured new manager Carlo Ancelotti, who took charge of the Toffees for the first time. The Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers issues were typically well designed, while the Bournemouth programme cover showed midfielder Dan Gosling sporting the club’s strip for the 1997/98 season – the first in which the club played at Wembley when they reached the final of the Auto Windscreens Shield.
