Our latest look at Premier League programme covers takes in the two rounds of matches played between Friday 10th and Sunday 19th January 2020. The issues shown below were those for the weekend games between 10th and 12th January.
In addition to the regularly excellent covers from clubs like Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, perhaps the most noteworthy of the cover designs for this slate of games was that produced by Manchester United for the visit of Norwich City. The club produced a double cover with the regular ‘United Review’ style front page surrounded by an alternative design to mark Chinese New Year and United’s launch of a new clothing line.
The programme covers for the games played on 18th and 19th January are shown below.
Manchester City marked the recent achievement from Sergio Aguero in becoming the highest-scoring foreign player in the Premier League era by putting the Argentinian on their cover for the visit of Crystal Palace. Aguero’s hat-trick at Villa Park the previous weekend had taken the striker past Thierry Henry’s tally of 175 goals for Arsenal, as well as moving him on to 12 Premier League hat-tricks – one more than Alan Shearer’s previous record of 11. There were also eye-catching designs from Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion, while Norwich City’s series of covers celebrating kits of the past also produced another memorable image, with Emi Buendia and Callum Wilson in their respective clubs’ kits from the 2014/15 season.
