Programme Covers – 3rd to 5th December 2019

Here we have all the Premier League programme covers for the midweek round of games played between Tuesday 3rd and Thursday 5th December.

There were several very well presented covers in this round of games. Perhaps the most striking was Liverpool’s programme from the local derby against Everton, which makes reference to the 96 supporters who died in the Hillsborough disaster 30 years ago – the match taking place just days after the police chief from the day, David Duckenfield, was cleared of manslaughter charges in a retrial. The programme cover features ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ as a watermark behind the main image. You can read more about the Hillsborough trial here.

Elsewhere Chelsea marked the return to Stamford Bridge of former captain John Terry, know in a coaching role with visitors Aston Villa, with a picture of Terry with former team-mate Lampard, know of course making his mark in charge of the Blues. On a similar theme, Arsenal marked Freddie Ljungberg’s first home match in charge of the Gunners with their cover for the match against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Burnley’s cover’s continue to impress, incorporating the colours of the visiting club in an eye-catching design. The Burnley issue was one of two (Crystal Palace being the other) to also recognise on their cover the Rainbow Laces campaign, which fights for LGBT equality in sport.
