Welcome to Premier Progs!

Celebrating the history, design and culture of the English football programme.

Football programmes have been a central part of the matchday experience for generations. Premier Progs is dedicated to celebrating and preserving this often-overlooked part of the game’s history.

The site features programme reviews and information from the Premier League and the old First Division, covering the issues being produced today and those published over the decades since the Second World War.

Premier Progs began in March 2018 and is an ongoing project to build a comprehensive record of English top-flight programmes. The archive currently stretches back to the 1963/64 season, with the ultimate aim of reaching the first post-war Division One season of 1946/47.

As well as recording the programmes themselves, the site looks at what makes a good matchday publication. Current Premier League issues are assessed for their design and layout, original content, opposition coverage, and club coverage, with the strongest programmes recognised in our annual end of season awards.

The site also explores how football programmes have changed over time – from their design and content to their pricing and value for money.

In an increasingly digital world, the best football programmes offer something that social media and websites cannot: a tangible, lasting record of a club, its players, supporters, and history.

Premier Progs aims to document that story and celebrate the clubs who excel by making their programmes more than simply a few pages to glance through before kick-off.

Take a look around and explore the archive. Whether you’re a programme collector, a football historian, or simply interested in the changing culture of the English game, we hope you’ll find something of interest here.
